A guided devotional from David Blackwell on Thanksgiving Weekend
Opening scripture for meditation (read through 2x’s or more):
“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.”
To “give thanks” is to simply say thank you. This is the most common directive of thanksgiving in the scriptures. When I was a kid, I tried adding miracle grow to some seeds I had planted in the garden. I was amazed at how quickly those plants grew in comparison to the others. Thanksgiving is like applying miracle grow to truths that we know, yet still need to grow. Psalm 100 directs us to give thanks for He is good; His steadfast love endures forever. Take some time right now to speak out your thanks around His goodness and His love. Notice what happens in your heart when you apply thanksgiving to these beautiful truths about God.
“It is good that you hold onto one thing and also not let go of the other; for the one who fears God comes forth with both of them.”
As Navah (which is to say all of us) prepares to transition in 2019, it is vital we hold onto what God has given to us in the past 18 months. To do this requires us to spend time listening to what the Father has done/revealed/given to us that we need to hold onto heading into the next season. With pen and paper in hand, take 5 minutes and ask the Holy Spirit to show you 2-3 main things He has given to you personally in the last 18 months.
Respond and Discuss:
Now that you’ve identified those main revelations or gifts from the past 18 months, give thanks! When Jesus healed the 10 men with leprosy, only 1 came back to say thank you. Let it not be so with us! When you apply thanksgiving to the truth, it gets bigger and bigger. Express your gratitude over the gifts you received in the last 18 months. Stir your heart in thankful worship. If you are with others, take a few minutes to share what you wrote down.
