On the night of Jesus’ betrayal and arrest, He shared the Passover meal with His friends. After the meal, Jesus begins washing the disciple's feet, teaching them the way of Kingdom is to serve, not to be served.
Jesus knew fully the richness of His Sonship; being seen, known, and loved by the Father from the foundations of the world. In this knowledge gained through experience during His 33 years of life on earth, Jesus was fully secure in His identity. He had received all things from the Father, and lovingly offered all things back to the Father. What trust and affection between Father and Son! It is from this very place that Jesus could joyfully take the place of a Servant, washing His disciples feet. Though it seemed undignified for the Master to do, it would model in a tangible way, what He would accomplish through the Cross-the complete cleansing of all unrighteousness through the shedding of His blood. Peter and the other disciples were confronted, in a fresh way, with the humility of God. They came face to face with a King, clothed with authority and power, willing to serve, by washing the filthiest parts of them. Jesus took the lowly place among them that night, as He would take the lowly place for them, and the whole world, on the Cross. After this demonstration, what was the Lord’s instruction to His friends? Do likewise. He would say “…I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.” (vs. 15) This is the heart of Jesus, and the way of His kingdom. The Son of God lived as a Servant of all, bringing many sons and daughters to glory (Hebrews 2:10)
Where is Jesus challenging you to serve others as He has served you?
Here are three youtube links to songs that you can use during the 'worship' portion of the DBS
Questions for comprehension & imagination amongst kids.
It says Jesus knew He had come from God and was returning to God, and that all things were under His power. What did he do because He knew these things?
Take a moment to sit and ask the Father how He has empowered you to be like Jesus in His serving. Ask Him what serving He is inviting you into?

Be encouraged to include the kids as much as possible in your gatherings. Have them listen to the scriptures as they are read aloud. Perhaps ask them how they heard the text, and invite them to retell back to everyone in their own words.
