Kansas City is preparing to receive several hundred displaced individuals/families from Afghanistan. This resettlement process is happening much faster than normal since the crisis surged in August.

Navah would very much love to be apart of caring for and receiving those moving here well. Quite the moment and opportunity to pour out kindness and the welcome of Jesus practically. 

Understand at the outset that these needs will be present and potentially increasing over the coming few months. 

Option A. Immediate

We will be working wth Della Lamb to provide a kids play room in a main hosting hotel. Families will be staying there until longer term housing opens up. We are collecting kids items to outfit that room with play, creativity etc. Such an honor to do so! Katie Egli will be setting that up (feel free to email her if you would like to help with the upkeep of this room which will be weekly for a while katielee.egli@gmail.com). Attached you will see a document of kids items we are collecting. You can bring these items to this Sunday’s Gathering @El Torreon 4 pm. Or you can drop off at El Torreon this coming Monday (22nd) before noon. (Items needed to set up kids space)

Option B. Ongoing

We will also be working with JVS and this second list/document are house hold items and food requests. These items are NOT specifically needed right now. If you have and or buy them, (thrift store totally fine) please hang onto them until they are needed. We will be communicating and working with you as such to  help meet those practical needs and arrange delivery. Home Churches will also be engaging to varying degrees along the way. Lastly, any money given to Faith Fund between now and next Sunday (Nov 28) will all go to help meet practical needs. Here are the links for that :

Pray

Pray with us for the heart of Jesus to be felt by hundreds of people about to land in our beautiful City, and that the church of Jesus would welcome and love them well. Please also pray for those that are working on helping to create an easy resettlement process, it's a lot more than they are used to in a short amount of time. 

We are thankful to be in a church family that loves and serves well- thank you for your open and hospitable hearts.
